Leadership Team

Peter Lamelas, MD, MBA, CEO, Chief of Staff & Founder

Dr. Peter Lamelas founded MD Now Urgent Care with his wife in 2005 and is residency trained in Internal Medicine and Board Certified in Emergency Medicine (ABPS-AAPS). He has 17 years of experience as the Emergency Department Medical Director at West Palm Beach Hospital and a total of over 20 years of experience in emergency medicine and EMS. Dr. Lamelas is certified by the State of Florida as a workers’ compensation provider and previously oversaw the workers’ compensation program at West Palm Beach Hospital. He is also certified as a U.S. Civil Surgeon and has been an FAA Flight Medical Examiner.

Dr. Lamelas was elected to the Board of Directors of the Urgent Care Association of America and was on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine. In 2001, he received a gubernatorial appointment from Florida Governor Jeb Bush to serve as one of twelve doctors on the State of Florida Board of Medicine and he was the elected Vice Chairman, as well as Chairman of Rules and Quality Assurance committees. Dr. Lamelas is a long-standing member and Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and member of the Palm Beach County Medical Society and Florida Medical Association. He helped pioneer the creation of Urgent Care Certification criteria and is on the UCAOA Certification-Accreditation as well as Legislative Committees.

In 2016, he received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Urgent Care Association of America for his commitment to advancing urgent care medicine and the UCAOA.

 


Michael Holton, President & Chief Operating Officer

Michael HoltonMichael Holton currently serves as president and chief operating officer at MD Now Urgent Care, based in West Palm Beach, Florida. He previously served as president and chief operating officer at Preferred Vascular Group in Atlanta, Georgia and has been CEO of various businesses within the dialysis, vascular, and healthcare industry. Michael began his career at General Electric Medical Systems and spent the majority of his career as an executive at companies within the private equity sector, focusing on distressed companies. He has managed businesses worldwide, in countries including Mexico, England, Germany, and Japan. Michael leads and facilitates the use of Kaizen Lean Leadership and Change Management techniques, as well as Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM), and Stephen Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” He has a BS in Finance from Iona College and an MA from the Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary. Michael is married and has four daughters.


Jeffrey Collins, MD, Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Jeffrey Collins is Chief Medical Officer at MD Now Urgent Care. He previously served as Chief Medical Officer for ConvenientMD, one of the largest urgent care providers in New England. He was Chief of the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Urgent Care Center in Chelsea from 2001-2012. He also served as Medical Director of the MGH Center for Community Health Improvement in Boston from 2007-2012.

Collins has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Urgent Care Foundation and on the Board of Directors of the Urgent Care Association of America. He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine as well as multiple other committees for UCAOA, JCAHO, National Quality Forum, and others.

He has conducted research on urgent care access, urgent care referral practices, the role of urgent care centers in population health management, community health and others. Collins graduated Cum Laude from Bowdoin College with a dual major in Biochemistry and Anthropology. He did graduate work in social and medical anthropology at the University of Rochester and completed his fieldwork in Maharasthra, India as a U.S. Department of Education National Graduate Fellow. He graduated Cum Laude from the Boston University School of Medicine and as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in the Harvard Medical School Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency Program. He was selected as a National Health Service Scholar and is currently an Ambassador with the NHSC.

He has taught medical students and residents at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University School of Medicine, and several other institutions. He is the recipient of multiple teaching and preceptor awards. He is married and has three children.


Courtenay Yergens, Vice President & Director of Real Estate and Development

Courtenay YergensCourtenay Yergens joined MD Now in 2012 and serves as the company’s vice president & director of real estate and development. Courtenay has more than 15 years of experience in the commercial and retail real estate industry and previously served as a market director of real estate for Chase Bank. While at Chase, he was responsible for new site selection and acquisition for the bank’s retail branch expansion, from Indian River County through Miami-Dade County. Prior to that, Courtenay was a broker with CB Richard Ellis and represented national clients such as Wells Fargo, Cingular Wireless, and Nortel Networks. His responsibilities with MD Now include new site selection and acquisition, as well as managing the construction process of all new facilities. Courtenay graduated from Florida State University with a BA in English and is married with two sons.


R.P. Dickerson, Chief Financial Officer

R.P. DickersonR.P. Dickerson joined MD Now in 2012 and has more than 20 years of financial leadership experience. His unique healthcare background includes working in both the provider and payor perspective across publicly traded, private equity-backed, and physician-owned organizations. R.P. most recently served as the CFO of a multi-state private equity-backed radiology services company. Prior to that, he was the CFO of the Pacific Northwest’s largest radiology practice. R.P.’s career includes extensive work at CIGNA and HCA. He earned his MBA in Finance from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and his BS in Business Administration from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, majoring in Accounting.


Brandon Cohen, Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategy

Brandon Cohen serves as the Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy for MD Now Urgent Care where he is responsible for developing and executing the Company’s growth strategy and various other operational initiatives. He has over eight years of experience in private equity and investment banking. Most recently, Brandon was a Vice President at Brockway Moran and Partners, a middle-market private equity firm, where he led the efforts to identify and execute multiple transactions and drove the implementation of various programs to enhance the growth and efficiency profiles of numerous portfolio companies. Specifically, while at Brockway Moran, Brandon worked alongside the MD Now management team and played an important role in the Company’s recent growth.

Prior to joining with Brockway Moran, Brandon was a private equity associate at Harren Equity Partners and began his career in the investment banking division of Barclays Capital. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Florida.


Tony Diaz, Vice President of Operations

Tony Diaz serves as the Vice President of Operations for MD Now Urgent Care’s South Florida locations in Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties. He is an expert in clinical operations, leading day-to-day field operations, and reducing labor costs by increasing efficiencies. A well-respected 20-year veteran of the hospitality industry, with experience in publicly traded restaurant-company operations, Tony previously served as director of operations in Louisiana for the Wendy’s Company. He has a record of excellence in devising and implementing productivity and cost improvements that contribute to positive financial results and improve guest services. He specializes in the turnaround of under-performing operations by implementing purchasing and inventory control systems that lower operating costs, establishing policies to recruit, develop, and retain employees, and reducing labor costs through structured training programs and efficient staff deployment. Tony attended St. John’s University and graduated from The City University of New York with a BS in Business. Tony has been married for more than 20 years and has three teenage daughters.
