Immigration medical exams

We provide immigration physicals and vaccines from USCIS-designated civil surgeons as part of an application for an immigrant visa or green card.

Immigration physicals

Our USCIS-designated civil surgeons provide immigration medical exams, also known as immigration physicals, to individuals seeking a green card or other immigration benefits in the United States.

The main purpose of this specific type of exam is to protect public health and ensure applicants don't have communicable health conditions that would make them ineligible to enter the U.S., per immigration law.

Here’s what you can expect during your appointment:

  • Physical examination: A full-body examination to look at your eyes, ears, nose, throat, heart, lungs and abdomen.
  • Medical history: The immigration medical doctor will go over your medical history in detail with you.
  • Lab and imaging tests: Blood and urine samples will be taken to check for communicable diseases such as syphilis, gonorrhea and tuberculosis, and, if needed, a chest x-ray will be performed.
  • Vaccinations: The doctor will verify that you have all the necessary vaccinations and provide any immunizations you have not received. Please reference the CDC Immigrant and Refugee Health Vaccination webpage for current USCIS vaccination requirements.
  • Form I-693: Once the exam is finished, we will fill out the USCIS Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, seal it in an envelope and give to you to submit to USCIS as part of your immigration status change application.

The following documents are required to complete the exam:

  • Valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID. If you are younger than 14 years old, acceptable documents for proof of identity must show your name, date and place of birth and parents’ full names (such as your birth certificate).
  • A personal vaccination record, or a copy of a medical chart with vaccinations noted by a physician or other appropriate medical personnel.
  • Form I-693 Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, completed part 1, and parts 3 and 4 if required.
  • Medical records or any other records pertinent to your application, which may include Public Health Department, police, military, school or employment.

The civil surgeons at MD Now will conduct the medical examination and provide the USCIS with the necessary information to determine if you meet the health-related standards for admissibility. It is important to remember that this exam is not meant to be a comprehensive health check-up, but rather a screening focused on conditions relevant to U.S. immigration law.
