MD Now® Urgent Care offers the newest 4 strain Flu vaccine at all 30 South Florida locations

The CDC recommends getting this season’s flu shots by October 31. In response, MD Now is offering special savings on recommended flu vaccines at all locations.

In keeping with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations, MD Now® encourages flu vaccinations for everyone six months and older, well in advance of the 2017–2018 flu season. Certain health plans such as Blue Cross and Medicare might provide insurance coverage for this year’s influenza vaccines. However to make certain vaccinations more affordable, South Florida’s leading urgent care provider is offering special self-pay discounts, including a $10 online coupon that reduces the price of a quadrivalent seasonal flu shot not covered by insurance to just $30.

According to the CDC, vaccines are especially important for people at high risk of developing complications, such as those over the age of 65. For this reason, MD Now will also offer the high-dose Fluzone vaccine specifically recommended for this 65 years and older age group. This high dose Flu shot for eligible adult patients is typically covered by Medicare.

Since the nasal flu spray is not recommended for the upcoming season, these offerings should cover the full range of anticipated 2017–2018 flu strains. Recommended vaccines are available without appointment at all 30 MD Now locations, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily, including holidays.

For best results, the CDC emphasizes getting flu shots before the end of October, however it is never too late to get vaccinated. Since influenza vaccination is the only way to try and ensure full protection before flu season begins.

“It’s important to get flu shots early, since the timing of flu season can be difficult to predict,” explains Peter Lamelas, MD, Founder, CEO, and Chief of Medical Staff, MD Now Urgent Care. “Although peak season is typically from October through November, the flu vaccine can take up to two weeks to provide full protection. That said, a flu shot after October is still preferable to no flu shot at all since we often have a late or extended Flu season.”

Jeffery Collins, Chief Medical Officer and Physician at MD Now points out, “By making flu shots both convenient and affordable, we’re hoping to spare as many people as possible from the potentially serious and even life-threatening complications associated with the virus.”

For those already exhibiting symptoms, including coughing, sneezing, fever, and aches, Dr. Collins, recommends limiting contact with others. Those with the flu should stay home—other than to seek medical care—until at least 24 hours after a fever has subsided. In certain cases, an antiviral medication may also be necessary to limit the severity and duration of the illness.

Although a flu shot offers the best protection against the flu, other helpful measures include:

  • Using a tissue to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing.
  • Frequent hand washing with soap and water to prevent germs from spreading.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces of frequently used item
  • Avoiding close contact with those infected.
  • Staying home from work, school, or other social activities while infected.

For those requiring flu treatment, MD Now offers affordable care at all 30 convenient, neighborhood locations. Walk-ins are welcome from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, 365 days a year. To find MD Now locations throughout Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties, visit
